From Caterpillar to Butterfly: Transitioning From Manager to Leader
Have you just recently been promoted to a leadership position, or do you aspire to one day be a team lead, branch chief, division director or senior executive? Whether you currently hold the title of leader, or are striving to meet that career aspiration, it’s important to know the different between management and leadership, the traits of successful leaders and how you can develop them, and how to evaluate your own progress as a leader. Moreover, you must learn how to retain the respect of peers, hold yourself and other accountable, develop and communicate your vision, and inspire others to follow you.
About Glorimar Maldonado:
Glorimar Maldonado is the Chief Recruitment Officer for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in Washington, D.C. In this role, she provides technical guidance, data-driven analyses, and strategic leadership to recruit and onboard a prepared, diverse and sustainable workforce. Further, as an HHS strategic recruiter and an instructor, Ms. Maldonado conducts employment and professional development workshops at federal agencies, national conferences, and minority-serving institutions, as well as K-12 activities that promote careers in mathematics and the sciences.
Ms. Maldonado has worked at the CDC and was the chief of staff for the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics. She works collaboratively with key community and federal stakeholders to improve the recruitment, retention and professional development of Latinos and all underrepresented groups in the federal workforce.
About NAHFE's Leadership Hour:
The NAHFE’ s Leadership Hour is a virtual, 60-minute, facilitated session in which participants have the opportunity to engage with leaders, executive coaches, authors, and others. These individuals will share practical advice, guidance, and encouragement with emphasis on career development, management, and leadership.
